Speeches
Great job on speeches!
Each student is required to choose a speech to memorize for the classroom. The speech can be from the following categories:
Narrative
Poetry/Prose
Notable Speech (Speech given by a well-known/notable individual)
Original Oratory (Speech written by the student)
Speeches must be at least 3 minutes in length (when given). Practice your speech to see if it is long enough before you choose a final one to memorize.
Please encourage your child to enter the school speech contest! It is a fantastic opportunity for children to gain confidence and be successful in the future.
A packet has been sent home with each student and was discussed in class.
Speeches need to be chosen by Sept. 23
The Approval form is due by Sept. 23
Try-Outs for the contest is November 4th
The school speech contest (parents invited) is on November 10th.

Research Projects
Written Biography of Famous North Carolinian
Students will be asked to choose a famous North Carolinian and research his/her childhood, accomplishments and impact on others.
Students will be completing the research in outline form before writing in a narrative form.
Students will be completing the research in outline form before writing in a narrative form.
There is a piece of the biography project to be done at home. Students must create a scene with objects/symbols that relate to their famous North Carolinian and place their person in it. It must be a detailed scene such as the one to the left.
This scene is of Harriet Tubman and demonstrates her role in society as a leader in freeing the slaves. This scene is from the Crayola.com website.
The letter detailing the project is found below. Just click on the button to take you there!
